Experienced Hiker Missing In Hawaii

According to cops, on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, Laura Vogel set out on a solo camping trip on Maui’s North Shore. The New Mexico native had been living in Hawaii one-and-a-half years.

Laura is a 43-year-old avid camper and school science teacher.

Laura had let a friend know via text message that she had set up camp and was interacting with the locals. Her friend replied, but Laura never sent any more messages that night.

The next morning Laura missed an appointment, and her friends became concerned. They traveled to the area and found her van there with the door open and keys in the ignition. Neither her cell phone nor wallet could be found in the vicinity.

Laura’s friends went to the cops, but police were unable to start a missing person’s investigation because less than 24 hours had elapsed. Her friends were certain, however, that something was wrong so they organized a 20-person search party. The search was unfruitful.

An official law enforcement search happened the next day but nothing was found then either.

Another law enforcement search on Wednesday yielded nothing, but that night Laura’s friends found what could be the back cover of her cell phone near an adjacent homeless camp.

Laura Vogel is a white female with blonde hair and blue eyes. She is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds.
