Sex offender says he’ll live as transient

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the public that Level 1 sex offender Howard C. Liston has registered indicating that he plans to live as a transient in the county.

Liston, 56, pleaded guilty Oct. 28 in Thurston County Superior Court to a charge of attempted possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The conviction stems from Liston’s use of a computer April 18 at the Olympia Timberland Library to access child pornography Web sites. He was released from custody Dec. 3.

Court papers state: “When law enforcement arrived and approached the defendant he started closing tabs. The officer stopped the defendant. When the officer was reviewing the screen tabs that were open, he noticed several sites that depicted minor children in various sexual acts with adults.”

Liston told police that he was surfing the Internet for a job and “wanted to see what would appear when he did a search for teen porn pics.”

He is described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 130 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes.
