Last defendant in child trafficking case pleads

An Overland Park man has pleaded guilty to attempted sex trafficking of a child.

Federal prosecutors announced Friday that 47-year-old Steven E. Mikoloyck pleaded to a charge arising from Operation Guardian Angel, an undercover investigation targeting child sex trafficking in the Kansas City area.

Mikoloyck was the last of 7 men convicted in the nation’s first federal prosecution of the customers of child prostitution under the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. The investigation involved undercover officers posing on the Internet as adults offering children for sex.

Prosecutors say Mikoloyck responded to the advertisements in January, and was arrested after he paid $100 to an undercover agent.

No sentencing date was set.
