22 months in federal prison for Seattle prostitution case

An Irvine man was sentenced to 22 months in federal prison today for transporting prostitutes over state lines to work at Seattle-area brothels disguised as massage parlors and tanning salons.

Along with the prison sentence, Jesus “Jesse” Deleon was ordered to pay $152,000 and turn over eleven luxury watches at his sentencing hearing in a U.S. District Court in Seattle, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation officials said.

Deleon, who investigators say has already served 22 months in a California state prison for a similar crime in Sacramento County, will also serve three years’ probation after his release.

Deleon, along with Donald Kerry Frey of South Lake Tahoe, pleaded guilty to the sex trafficking charges in July. The two co-owned the Aloha Tanning Resort in Renton, the Avalon Spa in Seattle and the Malibu Tanning Spa in Tukwila.

Prosecutors say that Frey assisted Deleon with running the brothels, picking up cash payments of $25,000 or more from women who operated the businesses.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ye-Ting Woo, who leads the U.S. Attorney’s Office task force on human trafficking, wrote in a court filing that Deleon had operated the prostitution fronts for four years, setting up multiple bank accounts to conceal his activities.

Woo alleged that Deleon closed those accounts when he believed law enforcement officials were about to discover them, and shifted thousands of dollars from Washington to California.

The investigation was carried out by a number of federal and local agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Internal Revenue Services Criminal Investigation Unit, the Seattle Police Department and the King County Sheriff’s Office.

Frey was sentenced earlier this week to two years in state prison and three years’ probation.
